Church of St. John in the wilderness is located within the Palampur town, (in Himachal Pradesh) built on a low rise. The church offers breathtakingly beautiful views and opportunity to see the splendid architecture.

Reconstructed in 1929, after the 1905 earthquake, with several memorial tables and beautiful stained glass windows, it forms a lustrous landmark of Palampur.
The Church is currently being managed by the Church of North India, Amritsar Diocese. Its original structure is said to have been a twin of the more famous one in Forsyth Gunj, Upper Dharamshala. (Church of St. John in the wilderness, Upper Dharamshala)
A plaque inside the church announces that its foundation was laid by the Sir Thomas Douglas Forsyth KCSI, CB, after whom Forsyth Ganj is named.
